Gain Respect and Trust

Before anyone wants to buy anything from you, they need to respect and trust you. They need to think you know what you’re talking about. They need to think you will not rip them off, but will lead them toward their desire, and that you have their best interests at heart.

If they respect and trust you, they will happily join your email list, your Facebook group, in general, they will follow you loyally. And these are the people who will also buy from you. So you want to build these quality relationships with as many of your prospects as you can.

One way to entice people to join your list, and to help them feel you want to help them, is to give away something of value to them. Not only does a free gift help gain their trust, it also builds a feeling of reciprocity. That is, they are likely to feel they should do something for you (like buy your offer) because they received something from you for free.

Make Offers

Successful marketing (whether email marketing, website marketing, blogging, ecom, or any other type of marketing) is a balancing act between

  • Sharing quality free content that shows your readers that you know what you’re talking about and keeps them on your list, and
  • Offers for paid products, so you can earn a living.

Set Goals

Set Goals

I said GOALS not goats!

Your main goal should not be to make money. Your main goal should be to truly help people, to give them value. If you do that, they will trust and respect you, and ultimately buy products from you.

Okay, now let’s talk about how you can find that balance, and come up with a successful email marketing strategy.

Find the Balance

It would be great if there were a fail-safe formula that would tell you exactly when to send free content, and when to make an offer, and even when to combine the two. The truth is that there is no such formula.

A system and guidelines that work well for one marketer in one niche will likely not work exactly the same way for the next marketer. Plus things change over time. You’ll use a different planl a few years down the road from the one you use now. Things change, readers change, and what they expect from your business will change.

So where do you start and what do you do to find your own balance between sharing freebies and making money-making offers?

Set Expectations

You set a lot of expectations by what you’re currently doing. If you’re mostly sharing lots of great helpful free content, that’s what your readers expect right now. If you are in this situation, you should change those expectations slowly. Add a few offers here and there. Don’t push too hard. Don’t sell! Show, and help. Offer products that will add to your followers well-being and bottom line.

Give your readers time to adjust and gradually get them used to the idea of seeing offers. Point out the benefits of your offers. Let them know you’re handpicking and evaluating products and services for them. Show your readers how this helps them out. Over time, get them used to seeing more and more offers.

If you’re starting out with a new list, start making offers from day one. Just remember you are offering them something that will be valuable to them. Mix your offers up with helpful free content, but don’t be afraid to make a sale from the beginning. Then start experimenting a bit. Try mixing an offer in with your free conten, or combine a helpful tip with an offer for a related product.  You want to strike a balance between sharing great content and making money.

Keep People Happy with Your Messages – Make more Money

If your readers see that you are providing a great service by offering them tips, tools, products that make their lives better, their business easier and/or more profitable, help them have better health or relationships, they will stick with you and keep buying. How To Strike A Balance Between Free Content And Paid Offers
