Build it Bigger and Faster

The face of web sites has changed dramatically over the last couple of years. If you notice, most new web sites are much bigger these days. Typically, most new sites are being built at nearly 1,000 pixels wide. This is a significant change from only a couple of years ago when we were building sites to work on monitor resolutions of 800 x 600 pixels.

The new, larger monitor size is due primarily with the increase of usage of LCD monitors. Most resolutions are 1280 x 1024 or larger. This means that there is much more real estate available for design and content. When building a new site, you should keep in mind the goal of keeping visitors from scrolling.
